Today, having completed his final bout with Chemo, on 9/19/07, a Cat Scan will be performed to make sure this diseased is completely licked!  then the Chemo Ports can be removed.

Billy is Cancer Free!  Yes, you heard right, cancer free - gone, fixed, done, just a bad memory now!  The Cat-Scan 9/19 revealed this!

Well, it's time to return the favor by contributing to the fund to help this brave young man who never cries despite critical, sometimes uncomfortable treatment necessary to beat this disease, which he will.

 Your contribution to the above fund will help the family meet the unexpected, additional expenses that this battle has and will continue to incur while Dad Tom juggles his already long work hours that support his kindly wife Carrie plus their other 2 fine children, Amanda and Tommy.  Dad Tom had to repeat the price of Billy's prescription medication since I thought I didn't hear right!  It goes without saying that it's tough to raise a family of five in costly Bergen County; we all know that.  This is a family that does not squander their money, growing vegetables in the backyard, buying meats and other provisions wholesale.

Properly so, Tom has had to forego significant work time in order to be at his son's side every moment possible during this burden that every family fears and no family, especially the Hicks should have to endure.  Fortunately, the immense medical expenses incurred in treating Billy aren't a burden. We don't understand why God tests us with these challenges.  Never has the common saying "There but for the Grace of God go I" had more meaning than in this unexpected, undeserved, cruel blow to a family that has given so unselfishly of themselves to everyone they've met over the years.

While the Hicks family only moved to Dumont in six years ago, Tom has been working and making and helping friends here since before I got to NJ..  In fact, Tom was the first person we met upon moving to NJ in 1991.  Tom took it upon himself to pick up yet another couple of friends, making us feel like we always knew him in a state that was then totally unfamiliar territory to us.

Billy's progress:

Update 07/15/07: Fortunately, Billy has bravely completed this round of Chemo and will be sent home from the hospital today.  His only complaint was being homesick!  He was back playing video games within minutes of his release from the hospital.

Update 08/01/07:  Billy starts his second quarter.  He knows the drills now and will come through this one just like the trouper that he's proven to be so far.  More details to follow....

Update 08/08/07:  This was some tough chemo, but Billy was a tougher kid.  He and his family went through a lot this past week.  Billy had to stay in the hospital a day longer than expected.  He was 'released' today.  However, he's getting back to his normal self quickly!  There is another round coming and that should kill this rotten thing once and for all.

Update 09/04/07: Billy has completed his Chemo. They tell me this one wasn't so tough, but that's by Billy' measure of "tough".

Billy is now Cancer Free!   Back to being old Billy again.   Hair back before you know it, look out for him on the field.  Even though opposing teams of course wished him the best, NOW, they gotta look out again.  They got Billy playing against them again.
